Description
The course aims to systematically build up from first principles, and covers key topics including: • pion-pion scattering, • form-factor analysis, • the Roy equations for pion scattering, • the Froissart bound,
with connections to results from effective field theory. Mathematica based support will be provided in tutorial sessions and many problems will be solved, to get (on hands) experience. The aim is to
make results from, e.g., lattice simulations and from effective theories accessible, and to use the general methods discussed here to improve the dynamics in this sector. An eager student can
extend the knowledge gained here to unequal mass scattering, to three particle rescattering effects, Regge theory, etc.. on her or his own.
Key textbooks include the old masterpiece by Martin and Spearman, the book by Martin, Morgan and Shaw, and a recent book by Irinel Caprini, and some other review articles that will be
mentioned.
